Most record sites give you a pile and let you work out what is new. This page gives you the difference: what moved between the last run and this one, and nothing else.
How this works
Every day the city's records are pulled again and compared with the previous pull, line by line. Three things can change on a given property:
- A case opens. L&I records a new unsafe or imminently dangerous building case on a parcel that did not have one.
- A case closes. The parcel was on the previous list and is no longer — the city withdrew it, or the defect was resolved.
- A balance moves. The outstanding tax figure for a parcel goes up or down. Down is the interesting one: it usually means somebody paid, or a payment plan started.
Reading the numbers honestly
A drop in the total is not automatically good news for the city's books, and a rise is not automatically a default. Balances move for ordinary reasons too — a new tax year posts, an appeal lands, interest accrues. What this page will never do is decide for you which of those it was: the parcel and case numbers are on every row so it can be checked against the city's own system.
One thing worth knowing: the city does not publish historical snapshots, so change detection can only ever be as good as the day it starts. That day is recorded below.
